There are ordinary full moons.
And then there are the ones that seem to arrive carrying a message.
This Sunday’s Full Moon is one of those.
Not only is it a Full Moon in Sagittarius, the sign of truth, freedom, adventure, and higher wisdom—it is also a Blue Moon, a relatively rare lunar event that gives us the phrase:
“Once in a blue moon.”
Whether you view the moon through astronomy, astrology, spirituality, or simply as a reminder to slow down and reflect, this lunation offers something powerful:
A chance to zoom out and see the bigger picture.
And perhaps that is exactly what many of us need right now.|
Despite the name, the moon won’t actually appear blue.
A Blue Moon occurs when there are two full moons within a single calendar month, making the second one the “Blue Moon.” This happens because the lunar cycle is approximately 29.5 days long, while our calendar months are a human-created system that doesn’t perfectly align with the moon’s rhythm. Blue Moons occur only every few years, which is where the phrase “once in a blue moon” originates.
This May is unusual because we began the month with a Full Moon on May 1 and end it with another on May 31, creating a Blue Moon. It is also a micromoon, meaning the moon is near its farthest point from Earth and appears slightly smaller than average.
Astronomically, it’s a rare alignment.
Symbolically, it feels like a cosmic punctuation mark.
Every zodiac sign carries an archetype.
Sagittarius is the seeker.
The explorer.
The philosopher.
The traveler.
The one who climbs the mountain to gain a wider perspective.
While Gemini season often fills the air with information, conversations, headlines, and endless data points, Sagittarius asks a different question:
What does it all mean?
Gemini collects information.
Sagittarius seeks wisdom.
Gemini asks questions.
Sagittarius searches for truth.
That is why Sagittarius Full Moons often feel like moments of revelation.
Not necessarily because new information appears.
But because we suddenly see existing information differently.
What makes this moon particularly interesting is its placement between two very different lunar energies.
Earlier this month, we experienced the Taurus New Moon.
Taurus is about:
- grounding
- stability
- security
- self-worth
- building foundations
Its message was simple:
Slow down. Root deeper. Create stability.
Now comes Sagittarius.
The energy shifts from rooting to reaching.
From stability to possibility.
From building foundations to expanding horizons.
And just a few weeks from now, we’ll arrive at the Gemini New Moon.
Gemini is movement.
Communication.
Ideas.
Connections.
Learning.
In many ways, this Blue Moon acts like a bridge.
Taurus asked:
What do you value?
Sagittarius asks:
What do you believe?
Gemini will ask:
What are you going to do with it?
One of the most powerful themes of Sagittarius is the dismantling of limiting narratives.
Think about how many beliefs you’ve inherited.
From family.
School.
Media.
Politics.
Religion.
Culture.
Some are useful.
Some are not.
A Sagittarius Full Moon has a way of illuminating the difference.
It invites us to ask:
- Is this actually true?
- Does this belief serve me?
- Did I choose this perspective?
- Or was it handed to me?
In a world filled with competing narratives, perhaps the greatest act of sovereignty is developing the courage to seek truth for yourself.
If you want to work intentionally with this moon, focus on themes that align with Sagittarius energy:
1. Expand Your Vision
Stop asking what is possible next week.
Ask what is possible over the next five years.
What is the larger vision for your life?
2. Question Limiting Beliefs
Every major breakthrough begins when someone stops treating an old belief as a fact.
What assumptions are quietly shaping your life?
3. Learn Something New
Sagittarius loves growth.
Read the book.
Take the course.
Explore the subject you’ve been avoiding.
4. Reconnect With Adventure
Not necessarily travel.
But curiosity.
Wonder.
Possibility.
The willingness to step beyond what feels familiar.
5. Focus on Truth
Not someone else’s truth.
Your truth.
What do you know in your bones?
What have you been ignoring?
Tonight or Sunday night:
Write down three things you are ready to release:
- a fear
- a limiting belief
- an old identity
Then write down three things you want to expand:
- a dream
- a skill
- a quality within yourself
Ask yourself:
If I stopped playing small, what would change first?
Sit with that answer.
It may reveal more than you expect.
A Blue Moon is rare.
A Sagittarius Full Moon asks us to remember something many people forget:
Life is bigger than the headlines.
Bigger than the fear.
Bigger than the daily distractions competing for our attention.
This moon reminds us to zoom out.
To see the horizon again.
To remember that growth requires both roots and wings.
The Taurus New Moon helped us put down roots.
The Sagittarius Blue Moon invites us to spread our wings.
And the Gemini New Moon waiting ahead asks:
Now that you’ve remembered who you are, what story will you choose to tell next?
