Buried Files, Foreign Ties

The recent declassification of JFK files has reignited an essential conversation that stretches back to the early 1960s but remains disturbingly relevant today. While many eyes are fixed on the usual suspects, a less discussed but critical battle was waged between President John F. Kennedy, his Justice Department under Robert F. Kennedy, and an organization known as the American Zionist Council (AZC). This story is more than a footnote—it’s a thread that pulls back the curtain on influence, foreign lobbying, and 62 years of quiet defiance.

What Was the AZC and Why Was JFK Concerned?

The American Zionist Council was established in 1949 as an umbrella group representing major Zionist organizations in the U.S. It actively promoted the interests of the newly established State of Israel—but with heavy financial backing and coordination from the Jewish Agency for Israel, a foreign entity. That connection, and the lobbying efforts it funded, put the AZC squarely in violation of the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA).

FARA, passed in 1938, requires any person or entity operating on behalf of a foreign power to register as a foreign agent—ensuring transparency for the American people. It’s a law designed to protect the integrity of U.S. policymaking from covert foreign influence. And JFK’s administration took it seriously.

In 1962, under orders from Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy, the DOJ demanded the AZC register as a foreign agent. The AZC had been receiving hundreds of thousands of dollars from the Jewish Agency for Israel—money used to lobby U.S. officials and fund propaganda campaigns in American media. This was clear foreign influence—and it was being conducted under the radar.

But here’s where things get strange: The AZC refused. Flat-out.

They claimed their activities were educational, not political. They argued they weren’t controlled directly by a foreign principal. And despite mounting evidence and pressure from the Kennedy administration, they never complied with the order.

What Were They Hiding?

That’s the million-dollar question. What could be so damaging, so revealing, that defiance of a lawful DOJ order was preferable to transparency?

The answer likely lies in the money trail. Registration under FARA would have required the AZC to publicly disclose its funding sources, lobbying contacts, media campaigns, and internal strategy memos. It would have laid bare the extent to which a foreign government was shaping U.S. policy and public opinion—particularly in the Middle East.

And that is something those in power could not allow.

Because the AZC didn’t just represent advocacy—it represented access. Access to Congress, to the media, to the levers of power that could shift U.S. foreign policy in favor of Israel. And this wasn’t happening in the shadows of D.C.—it was happening in broad daylight.

The Birth of AIPAC: A Rebrand or a Reinvention?

Not long after the AZC’s battle with JFK and the DOJ, a new entity quietly rose to prominence: the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC). Founded in 1951 but ramped up in influence post-AZC scandal, AIPAC became the most powerful pro-Israel lobby in America.

While technically distinct from the AZC, many of the same figures and funders were involved, and AIPAC assumed the AZC’s role in lobbying for Israel. But here’s the kicker: AIPAC was never required to register under FARA.

Despite conducting activities that closely mirrored the AZC’s—foreign-funded lobbying, media influence, campaign donations—AIPAC has operated for over 60 years without transparency requirements, effectively continuing the very activities the Kennedy administration tried to expose.

Why Has No One Enforced the Law Since?

This is where things grow even more unsettling. Despite clear precedent and an open FARA case against the AZC, no administration since Kennedy has dared touch this issue. Not Reagan, not Clinton, not Bush, not Obama, certainly not Biden, and to our great disappointment, its clear that Trump has bent the knee as well.

Why? Because AIPAC has become a political powerhouse. With bipartisan influence, deep financial resources, and a fearsome media echo chamber, it has cemented itself as a “third rail” of American politics. Criticize it, and you’re labeled anti-Semitic. Investigate it, and you’re risking your career.

This isn’t about Judaism. It’s about foreign influence masquerading as domestic advocacy, and a shadow system of policy control that answers to no law, no transparency, and no Constitution.

A Reckoning Delayed—But Not Forgotten

With the JFK files now reopening long-dormant discussions, we must revisit this buried confrontation. Not to stoke division, but to demand answers:

      • Why was FARA never enforced?

      • Who blocked the DOJ’s efforts?

      • What role did this conflict play in the broader tensions surrounding JFK’s presidency?

      • And who benefits from this 62-year cloak of silence?

The American people deserve to know who is influencing their government—and why.

This story isn’t over. It’s just beginning to surface. And the more we dig, the more we may discover about why history has been rewritten, hidden, and weaponized against truth.

Stay tuned. We’re just getting started.
